Zahid Not In Favour Of Utusan-NSTP Merger. He Should Tell Nazri That.

Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Ahmad Zahid Hamidi says he is not in favour of the proposed merger between Utusan Melayu (Malaysia) Bhd and New Straits Times Press Bhd (NSTP), as each newspaper has its own entity.

"As a member of Umno Supreme Council, I feel there should be healthy competition among all print and electronic media in the country, hence raising the quality of news and the commercial value of the media organisation itself," he said at the Parliament lobby here Thursday.

Zahid who is also Deputy Information Minister said the print and electronic media should not be controlled by one company, as this would result in a monopoly of news and information.

He said if the merger were to materialise, both would stand to lose in terms of ratings given that they were sharing the same audience.

****** Good points that Zahid has raised. Now he should convey his doubts and disapproval to the highly optimistic Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz who strongly feels that the Utusan-NSTP Merger Brings Benefits.
