Malaysia's Longest Bahasa Debate At Dewan Bahasa.

The 100-hour continuous debate in Bahasa Malaysia organised by Dewan Bahasa Dan Pustaka (DBP) and Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) has made it into the Malaysia Book of Records as the longest debate ever held.

The debate at DBP began on Dec 19 and ended at 1pm Saturday.

It was held on conjunction with DBP's 50th anniversary and involved 390 participants from 130 teams comprising university, college and secondary school students as well individuals.

Among the schools were Sekolah Seri Mersing Johor, Pengkalan Chepa Mara Junior Science College and Sekolah Alam Shah.

Each team fielded three representatives. They spoke on various topics including language, integrity, unity, environment and entertainment. Each debate was given one hour.

UiTM Vice Chancellor Datuk Prof Dr Ibrahim Abu Shah said the objective was to see the debaters' ability in using Bahasa Malaysia effectively.

Malaysia Book of Records representative Faridah Hanem Ab Rashid said the debate would be nominated into Guinness World Records.

As usual Malaysian, it will be all talk and talk and talk... I'm sure the air-conditionings were set at very low temperatures because of all that 'hot air' blown by these debaters in the dewan ! Getting into the book of records is an obsession for our simpletons !
Not everyone is impressed by such records !

I love debates, but I dont get what the big fuss is about yet another 'record-breaking' event. They could even go as far as making it a 1000-hour debate, as long as they bring in even more schools. It seems trivial and, besides the logistical challenges in transporting the debaters to the venue, it's not such a difficult attempt.
