How Credible Are Najib's Assurances?

It is not easy being a Vice President or Deputy Prime Minister. You have to be seen in public giving full support to your boss even if you think that he is an incompetent wimp. On top of that you have to keep all your unbridled ambitions and desires somehow well restrained lest you be portrayed as an impatient leader-in-waiting.

More irritating is that you have to sound like a true statesman who does not have any prejudices, dislikes, pet hatreds and act as if you are there to be a sincere leader of ALL the people. And to reinforce that impression you have to say and claim things you don't believe in or have ever subscribed to. Not easy at all. If you can pull it off and successfully hoodwink the majority, then you deserve an Oscar or the President's/Prime Minister's chair or both.

I wonder how much of the above is applicable to our very own Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak? Yesterday for example he made a few very reassuring statements:

-The government will ensure all Malaysians will benefit from the Ninth Malaysia Plan (9MP).

-The government's main agenda in the 9MP was not the mega projects alone but the holistic approach that would extend the plan's benefits to all Malaysians.

-The government is bold enough to state that by the end of the 9MP in 2010, the hardcore poor will no longer exist in Malaysia.

- The leadership would ensure all the allocations pledged under the 9MP would be disbursed effectively.

-The government's efforts to realise the Bumiputera equity target will not be at the expense of non-Bumiputeras.

-The Government needs to give attention to strike a balance but it would not be at the expense of non-Malays.

Which brings me back to the title of this post, How Credible Are Najib's Assurances?
