Haze - The Same Old Bloody Indonesian Excuse.

Punish them! That is what Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Azmi Khalid has to say to the Indonesian Government about Malaysian companies in Indonesia which may be polluting the air. Malaysia will not protect any Malaysian company in Indonesia which may be contributing to the haze. “We are not here to protect anyone, and we implore Indonesia to impose the most severe penalties under their law to anyone found guilty,” he said.

Azmi's comments were in reply to reports in the Indonesian media that some of the culprits involved in open burning were Malaysian-owned oil palm companies. “However, even the Indonesian Government has confirmed that the burning is coming from the traditional slash-and-burn activities of smallholders and not plantation companies. “But I would like to reiterate that Malaysia will not condone any activity done by its own people or companies.” (The Star)

**** The reasons provided by the Indons are tired excuses given by a bankrupt leadership of a bankrupt country. They don't even care for their own people why should they bother about us? Only because the international press has highlighted the haze and pointed to Indonesia as the culprits and criminals behind this environmental crime are they even responding with this big lie.

How that country has survived this far without having been split into a zillion pieces is in itself a miracle. We have been too patient with the recalcitrance, indolence and arrogance displayed by the Indonesian authorities. I had in August posted about this and even then said that when things get bad and serious damage is done, the damned Indons are going to turn around and blame Malaysian plantation owners for the haze!

The bastards have been dragging their feet and have thus far refused to ratify the Asean transboundary haze agreement, which we ratified in December 2002 and Singapore in January 2003. Unfortunately there is nothing much that we can do except make a lot of noise and hope that at least one of these numbskulls realises the suffering their irresponsibility and inefficiency is causing us. Until then stay indoors, drink a lot of water, invest in a good face mask and pray that God puts some sense into these Indonesian leaders.

I wonder when AAB SIL Mamak KJ, along with his boss in UMNO Youth i.e. Cicit Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, will organise a demonstration in front of the Indon Embassy to protest against the open burning and haze. May I suggest they include flag burning into their agenda...oh, and make sure that it is done in the morning during working hours, eh you wankers?

Unfortunately Jorami Ibni Karakhani, demonstrating in front of the Indonesian Embassy will be counter-productive for our wira politik. They can't set foot into Abang Indonesia's land again if they did that.

I will not be a donor when the next natural disaster strikes Indonesia.

In today's newspaper, Jusuf Kalla sounds desperate,
"Regional governors and leaders have been called up. Ministers have been ticked off several times by the President. What else can we do."

I would like to suggest that Indonesia does the following:

Owing to satellite photography technology, all burnings can be identified, the government can order the burnt areas to be banned from further use, say, for five years or so. This would make it uneconomical for the landowners to clear it by burning. Wonder whether the Indon government has the politcal will to do so.

The key to the problem is not to have the burning started rather than to send the firemen in to fight the blaze.

Plenty.
1) Sack the ministers responsible
2) Throw those plantation owners into jail
3) Confiscate those lands which practise slash and burn.

Need to slaughter a few chickens to scare the monkeys...
