PM Wants States To Enforce Laws On Spreading Faiths.
Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi wants states, yet to enforce laws to stop the spread of other beliefs among Muslims, to implement them to prevent the emergence of defects among the people in the country. The Prime Minister said these states should consider the matter and took actions so that racial harmony in the country was preserved.
"Why are they still not doing it? To those states that have not (legislated such laws), they should consider. Take whatever actions needed," he told reporters. He said this when asked to comment on four states, namely Federal Territories, Penang, Sabah and Sarawak, that had yet to legislate laws to prevent other faiths from spreading their beliefs among Muslims.
Article 11(4) of the Federal Constitution allowed laws of the states, Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and the Federal laws to control and prevent the spread of any faiths or religious beliefs among Muslims. Abdullah said he had always reminded people not to raise religious issues as they could provoke conflicts if left unattended. "I have always said do not raise this matter. But it emerges here, there, back and forth. If we take the attitude (not to raise), then only the religion (Islam) has the status quo. But if it is continuously being raised, what will happen then? A conflict," he said.
He said that it was not easy to settle matters related to religions or involving the relationships between races as each parties would be emotional to a point of quarrelling. "We do not want this (to a point of fighting)," he said. He said Islam's position as the official religion had been agreed upon by leaders a long time ago, and the result of discussions among the races had allowed Malaysians to live in peace.
"This had been agreed upon since the early years among the leaders who helped the country achieve independence. All the laws or the Constitution had been thought of together. Many matters had been decided upon because they hoped these would not become problems in the relationships among the people of Malaysia, which comprises many races and religions. That was their hope. They considered all these (during the early days of independence). So after considering all that, they incorporated in the Constitution whatever that had agreed upon. The discussions of wise elders at that time must be followed by us," Abdullah said.
The Prime Minister said that other countries were impressed with what were enjoyed by the multi racial and religious Malaysians. He said this was because other countries could not experience the good ethnic relations that were found in Malaysia.

Other countries envious with our multi racial atmosphere !
Really ? Which country and which survey revealed that ?
I rather believe the take of the foreigner who visited this country several times and had lunch with a group of non malays and later a group of malays and what these conversations revealed(Read in Malaysia Today about 3 weeks ago).
Their are a lot of suppresed emotions and the attitude of subordination among non muslims when it comes to questioning ketuanan issue and hoping the next generation doesnt have to endure. the same suffering.
Because u r not MALAY .
Seperti Agama Lain mempunyai Rules and Regulation so we are .
People or even from Europe....
anonymous, aku setuju 100%
1)bapaku memperakui bapamu dan anak-cucunya yang lahir di Tanah Melayu selepas merdeka sebagai rakyat negeri ini dan kamu bebas mengamalkan kepercayaan agamamu;
Be grateful for what we have here in Malaysia!!!
