Attack On A Former PM -Where Are We Heading?

This is the 'breaking news' from Malaysia Today: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad arrived at Pengkalan Chepa airport at 11am today and was attacked by an unknown person. It is believed Tun was attacked with mace. He was rushed off to safety and we have been told he has recovered and will go on with his address at 3.30pm.

Have we descended so low in our dirty politicking that we have not provided sufficient security to not only a former PM but a world statesman? How could this have happened? It is imperative that in a true democracy, the type that we claim and we preach, that a former head of government is afforded all necessary comforts and security befitting his status. There are no two ways about it.

This is a disgraceful act and that shame will smear the government as well. Pak Lah had better come out with a strong statement fast, and match that with appropriate action. We are not the Congo or some unlawful desolate outpost at the far end of the world. If we are to be considered as part of the civilised comity of nations then we should consistently act that way.

Here is Bernama's report just in: Tun Mahathir's Speech At Airport Cancelled

That is so wrong. I am disgusted by that idiot's action on Tun Mahathir. The man deserve respect for the 22 years he served the country. We wouldn't be where we are now if not for him. Such an ungrateful lot!

Ummm... just because you respect his 22 years in power does not mean you have to respect his behavior out of power...

I used to be the biggest M proponent around, even when Anwar debacle was going on.

However... nowadays... i would not put it past Tun M to have orchestrated the attack himself.

It's not about Tun M reign, the fact that a man is being attack is disgraceful, to make it worse it's an attack on an 80-year-old.

Tun M ochestrated the attack himself? Ya right thanks for the brainless comment.

Provide protection to a former PM and wolrd statesman? Come on, don't waste my tax money.
Going into PAS heartland to criticise current PM? He deserve it!
I used to respect DrM and tell my friends that DrM is best thing to happen to M'sia, but 22 years of good doesn't give a person carte blanc authority.

I have the fullest respect for DrM and tell my friends that he is the best thing to happen to M'sia over past 20years.
But going to PAS heartland to criticise PakLah? No security for our former PM and world stateman? Come on, don't waste my tax money. He deserve pie in his face. Why can't he retire peacefully?

The fact you think it's brainless only goes to show how outside the inner circle you are.

Much MUCH crazier things have been done in Malaysia and elsewhere.
