19th July 2006 - 'Slap On The Face' Day For Several Cabinet Ministers
Yesterday will go down in my books as a great day. It was indeed extremely satisfying to see several ministers being right royally brought down a peg or two; one by the Prime Minister and two others by the British authorities. Oh what a nice feeling!
When the issue of the London Sports Centre cropped up and the public rightly objected to it, describing it as a waste of public money, it was indeed very disappointing to read of the explanations given by these ministers justifying it. The arrogance displayed by Najib in dismissing the objections, as well as the 'couldn't care less about your opinion' stance taken by the nonchalant Azalina, were patent and indeed unbecoming of ministers entrusted with the welfare of the people and the wise management of their funds. So when the report of the refusal of the British to allow this came in, there was jubilation all-round, except at the pro-sports centre camp where gloomy despair overtook the earlier merry 'pound sterling calculation' mood.
As if that was not enough to make my day, Pak Lah came in with more good news for the sane citizen, when he gave a prime ministerial slap on the face to that new convert to historical revisionism, Mustapa Mohamed, minister for higher education, by directing the withdrawal of the controversial guidebook for the Ethnic Relations teaching module used by Universiti Putra Malaysia. Mustapa should now promptly hand in his resignation because it is demeaning to him that less than 24 hours after he spiritedly backed the guidebook compiled by bigoted racists, he has been humiliatingly overruled by the PM on behalf of the cabinet who gave reasons directly opposed to the justification that Mustapa used in arguing that the racism soaked module be preserved.
All in all a good day for me, don't you think?
