Fuel Price May Rise Beginning August, Says Minister Shahrir
Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Shahrir Abdul Samad today hinted that petrol and diesel prices may go up beginning August.
"It will happen...petrol prices will increase, I think the idea is in August this year when the subsidy system is re-structured," he said.
The increase in fuel prices is in line with the structuring of the new mechanism for the fuel subsidy scheme enjoyed by the people now.
"There are already several proposals and the mechanism has been submitted to the Finance Ministry and it will be decided in the best manner," he told reporters at the Parliament lobby here.
He said although the fuel price would go up, the petrol subsidy would continue to be enjoyed by the people based on requirement instead of usage.
"If we look at the subsidy that we receive today, it is based on the amount used, if we consume 200 litres per month, we will receive subsidy for each litre that we purchase. If we use only 100 litres, will will also be given the subsidy, so this means there is no restriction to the subsidy that we get based on our usage. (Bernama)

Be prepared for the worst. However worst a situation is, there is always light at the end of the tunnel. So when fuel price is up, everything else shall follow suit. Luckily Malaysia is a land of abundance in terms of what we can grow and produce. So we have to start to change our mind set from `Malaysia boleh' to `memang saya boleh.'
I am fine with petrol prices going up, but some bastards will manipulate food prices, transportation cost, and every god damn thing under the sun for their own benefit. I think this is totally unfair. They should know their limits and not put people at a cross road of hunger. Furthermore, you have a bunch of UMNO bastards who would be talking about Malay rights instead of Malaysian rights when we have given them 50 years to sort out their backward mentalities. Every Malaysian is going to suffer. It is time the government help everyone.
Exactly, it's not only the price of Petrol that goes up...there will be a Domino effect...Transportation, Food, etc etc will also go up.
And yet the Government will keep saying our Inflation Rate is 3%!
Maybe the Govt. should get Petronas to use the money spent on the worthless Petronas Orchestera (Millions a month it seems) to help the Rakyat out? I guess not as the Orchastera is very important for our Malaysia Boleh image (although most of teh Musicians there are Foreigners)!
I support the reduction or removal of fuel subsidies because it only benifit the rich & high income earners. But to prevent the spiralling price increase of all other essential goods & services, the government must come down hard on those leeching unethical chinaman businessman/middleman. Past experience shown that these bastard chinaman businessman/middleman will strike again and again. The ordinary Malaysians will suffer.
Majority of the Chinese are not chinaman businessman/middleman, they suffer also.
Why was "tightening of belts" not mentioned at all in the BN Elections Manifesto 2008? If mentioned, it is possible BN would be left with only Sabah and Sarawak
Every assemblyman is given hundreds of thousand to spend by each state government. If all these fuckers stop these wastages, then we could have a just country. The government has enriched so many fuckers like Ling Liong Sik, Tajuddin ali, among others. It is time to remove all these incentives for these corrupted politicians.
