Najib Reiterates Support For Pak Lah
Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today reiterated his support for Prime Minister and Umno president Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, and said both of them were working hard to rebuild Umno and the Barisan Nasional (BN) following the general election.The deputy prime minister and Umno deputy president said all Umno members should focus on the efforts to galvanise Umno instead of getting carried away with the forthcoming party elections.
“Datuk Seri President and I are working hard to rebuild the party and for that we need unity within the party and the total commitment of all members. They should not get carried away with the (coming) party elections,” he told reporters.
He responded thus when asked to comment on the offer by Gua Musang Umno Division chief Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah to be considered for the post of president at the Umno General Assembly to be held later this year. Najib said: “In our (party) system, anyone can offer himself or herself for any position. However, the offer must be made through the proper channel and in accordance with the provisions of the party constitution.
“For me, as the (Umno) deputy president, I support Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi as the party president.”
Asked about many quarters regarding Tengku Razaleigh’s offer as inappropriate at a time when Umno was rebuilding itself, Najib said: “It is up to the members to make an evaluation. As for me, I support Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi as the party president. Of importance now is for us to focus on strengthening the party after the general election.”
Asked whether Umno was facing a problem, Najib said: “There are differing views. It is not serious or beyond control. I believe party members are matured and will give priority to party interests above everything else.”
Najib said Umno was stable but it needed a morale booster to continue with its struggle. “We must be convinced of our struggle, convinced of our ability to recoup our losses and convinced of the future of Umno as the basis of our administration. Although we experienced a jolt recently, the important thing is what we should do after the shock,” he said.
“It’s the same for the BN as well. Every BN component party must evaluate its capability and weakness, look at the reasons for loss of support among the voters and consider what should be done after this,” he said.
In the general election, the opposition retained Kelantan and captured Kedah, Penang, Perak and Selangor, and denied the BN a two-third majority in the Dewan Rakyat.
Asked about alleged efforts by the opposition to buy over BN elected representatives, Najib said he was convinced that the BN elected representatives would remain loyal and would not betray the coalition. (Bernama)
***** Najib's strong 'support' for Pak Lah reminds me of a line from the book and TV series 'Yes, Prime Minister' where Sir Humphrey points out that in order to get someone replaced politically, it involves firstly giving wholehearted support to him and then explains, that "it is necessary to get behind someone before you can stab them in the back."

Methinks Pak Lah has serious dirt on Najib stowed away - enough to destroy Najib forever if he doesn't cooperate.

The present scenario which keeps changing hour by hour makes life very interesting for many Malaysians who detest the old breed UMNPUTRAS; MICPUTRAS; MCOPUTRAS and so forth. It is something in the likes of a tragi-comedy in the mould of old Rome and Gaius Julius Caesar.
Of course you have to literally and physically 'get behind the back' to drive the scimitar into the back of who ever it is in this case at this point of history in Malaysia. Or, like in the play; CAESAR, everyone does the stabbing so that no one individual gets the blame.
That is how the Cabinet system works. Is it not. But, the PM appoints the Cabinet and it is His entire prerogative. But still the Cabinet takes responsibility. Whoever invented this 'fiction' of Cabinet responsibility in the face of the PM's prerogative makes the going good for any PM in office or out of office and the person concerned who devised this 'fiction' must be awarded a TUN ship if he is of local origin or a TAN ship if he is a foreigner.
Of course the British are clever at this sort of fictitious games and so the Prize goes to UK. We, Malaysians, benefit from it immensely. Do we ????
But in Malaysia, unlike in Britain or India or the Us or much more civilised states where Ministers bear responsibiity for failures under their ministership, our Cabinet and our Ministers have not heard of this practise.
Until you throw them out screaming and thrashing like good old Samy and Rafidah, they will never take responsibility or go away even if thousands of Malaysians tell them to go away. So, other more aggressive measures had to come to the fore in the interests of the Nation. What a relief it is.
Coming back to the subject, our Caesar, may be waiting for the Ides of March as it only seems too apparent that too many knives are being drawn against him.
Let us hope that he has the wisdom to avoid the 'assassins' and retire in peace knowing fully well at last that - Politics is a dirty business.
