Malaysia Run According To 'Islamic Principles', Says Najib. Far Cry From The Earlier Islamic State Claim Isn't It?

The leadership and administration of the country in the last 51 years has been in accordance with 'Islamic principles', said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

"Islam carries a wide meaning. For instance, welfare work is one aspect that is enjoined by the religion, so is the provision of job opportunities," he told reporters after attending a meet-the-people session at Sekolah Menengah Kubang Kerian II, here Sunday. Also present was Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Dr Awang Adek Hussin.

Najib added that the country's achievements had also gained recognition from well-known Islamic scholars including Egypt's Al-Azhar University's Grand Sheik Mohammed Sayyid Al-Tantawi, who was in Malaysia recently for the university's world alumni conference.

***** This is the most pathetic and laughingly wishy-washy back door declaration of an Islamic state I have ever heard. Being the true blue opportunist that politicians are, Najib has very cleverly avoided the term Islamic state for fear of putting off non-Muslims. But nevertheless in order to appeal to the Muslim electorate in Kelantan he has to be seen to say something linking Islam and the government. So you have this ridiculous description about Islamic principles.

If welfare work and provision of job opportunities is Najib's idea of governing
in accordance with 'Islamic principles', then many western nations are more 'Islamic' than we are. The things these politicians will say to fish for votes!

Hmmm, one could argue that it has also been run on "Secular Principles" too.

How about saying "Fair and Equitable Principles" and cut out any notionof religion or non-religion ?

Ahh, politic-speak !!!
