Unabashedly Pro-Government Information Department 'Ready' For General Election

The Information Department is ready for the 12th general election which is expected soon, said Director-General Datuk Abdullah Morad.

He said as usual, the information department's function was to inform the public of their responsibility as voters which include checking the electoral rolls and their polling areas.

"The public are reminded not to give their identity cards to other parties who want to keep them," he told reporters after a meeting with Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh and the Media Adventure (Kembara Media) 2008 participants here today.

Thirty-five Media Adventure participants were in Terengganu to witness the growth and development in the state. They were also briefed on the progress and future plans.

Abdullah said the Information Department would also print posters to inform the public of the general election date, polling centres and their responsibility as voters.

"We will also be using mobile units to distribute pamphlets informing the public. The mobile units will operate once Parliament and the State Assemblies are dissolved," he added.

He said the general election operation centres will also be set up in all the states and that all agencies under the Information Ministry would have an operation centre.

"For Terengganu, the operation centre is at the state Information Department," he added. (Bernama)

***** Not surprising really. The info department has been on standby and geared for elections the day Zainuddin Maidin became the minister. In fact he has been actively campaigning for the past four years by hyping inconsequential events as well as railing against anyone and everyone who disagrees with the government. Don't expect even an iota of neutrality from this department.
