Bread Price To Go Up Between 10 Sen And RM1.50

Malaysians will have to pay between 10 sen and RM 1.50 more for bread, starting today. As small and large bakeries have upped prices for all sorts of bread, the staple breakfast of most Malaysians, the inevitable had to happen.

Since April, the price of wheat flour has increased by a whopping 80%! A 25kg sack of non-general purpose (GP) wheat flour, which is used to make bread, is now priced at RM59.30, against RM33.60 in April.

Last month, it was fixed at RM44.30. Non-GP wheat flour is not a controlled item but the price of white bread, which is made from this type of flour, is controlled.

Apparently for every small loaf of bread produced, manufacturers were losing about 45 sen with the price increase of wheat flour!

The price of wheat flour has spiraled over the past half year with lower production due mainly to the drought in Australia.

According to statistics, Malaysia imports about 1.2 million tonnes of the grain a year.

It looks like that the humble white loaf might see a small rise while the 'up-market' health conscious person's daily bread, for example 'Breakthrough Bread' from Gardenia which already costs RM3.90 will definitely see a hefty increase. A wholemeal loaf which I just bought cost RM2.70, a rise of 60 sen.

In any case there is nothing much that can be done, given the circumstances. Just grin and bear it I suppose.

GOOD!! Bring in more!! But then the idiot minister would tell us that the inflation rate is still under control.
These suckers are lying & cheating us with their manupulated statistics. I also doubt their statistic on our planned & actual GDP growth rate.
Based on my present salary & my purchasing power, my perception is that the inflation must have shot over 10%! Beh Da Han!

Folks,

If you think this is the worse or the bottom of the abyss, then you are dead wrong. Wait till next year and especially after the general Election. All hell prices will break loose. Brace for the toughest times as the officialdom plays fiddle to your financial sorrows. The only way to "teach" them a lesson. Well, you know what to do with your simple vote........and shut your ears to the propaganda, the song of "feeling good."

accumulate enough money to send second flight participant to space. tink they are preparing to send the first malaysian to the sun at night.
absolutely right, anoher nightmare next year with higher petrol prices and toll charges. this will ignite another round of price increases in alomst everything. government will tell you it cant help with more subsidies as funds are needed for development projects. Just wondering another similar scandalous free trade zone project costing RM4.7 billion.
shit, the government has funds ie RM4.7 billion for the scandalous Free trade zone and RM6.6 billion for non-working patrol vessels so as to line up the pockets of their cronies, has RM600 million to give to the UMNO divisions, sell assets (Avenue Assets) on the cheap to their cronies, RM300 million a year to enthrall Jean Todt and company ( at least the PM can sail with him again during New Year who caes whether Johor is under floods) with the Monsoon Cup in terengganu..the list goes on...and they have the balls to tell taxpayers to tighten their belt while these crooks have a gala time.
dont you readers bitch coz didnt you lot asked for it by not casting your vote.

Now is the time to rise up and show despots like Badawi that we as Malaysians have had enough of their excuses and lies. Vote Opposition!!! Malaysia needs a change in the leadership and now is the time we as loyal Malaysians must do our bit.

For a month now, the people in Sibu have been paying RM1.80 for a loaf of bread (30sen increase) & a plate of noodles now cost RM2.20 (up by 20sen). I am not surprised after this announcement, it will cost us RM2 to buy a loaf of bread!!
