"Poverty Eradication Policy Is For All Races" Says Pak Lah. Is This True?
The government's poverty eradication policy and efforts to help the disadvantaged are not racially-biased, said Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
The prime minister said there were those who tried to mislead the people by claiming that the government was being selective in aid distribution.
"They try to take advantage of the situation by creating confusion among the public. This is pathetic. We want to help the people and not make things difficult for them," he said after presenting Aidilfitri contributions to the needy at an event organised by the Yayasan Budi Penyayang here.
Abdullah said Malaysians should make it a habit to extend assistance to others irrespective of the racial background of the recipients. This, he said, could already be seen during the various religious festivals where people of different faiths would hand out contributions among each other.
The prime minister said the generosity of Malaysians was also evident during calamities such as floods or when people became ill.
"Tourists love to come to our country because they like the friendly attitude of Malaysians. But we'd also like them to see Malaysians as a hardworking and charitable lot," he said.
A total of 350 poor residents received the Aidilfitri contributions while 150 students bound for institutions of higher learning received study aid.
***** There is no doubt that apart from some congenitally stingy bastards, Malaysians are generally a thoughtful, friendly and generous lot. The problem is whether the government is equally generous to all irrespective of racial origin. That is the million ringgit question, and frankly there would be few takers for the PM's assurance, as sincere as it may be. Government policies and practices over the past forty years don't give much hope or encouragement even for those who desperately want to believe Pak Lah.
Almost every non-Malay family will have a sad story or two, about how they have been deprived of jobs, promotions and university places. And the hardcore poor among non-bumis are still suffering from extreme poverty without any form of official help. Uncaring and racist civil servants have no time, inclination or the heart to help out fellow human beings. Every issue and situation is coloured by race and matlamat kerajaan.

...Perhaps the government should learn to practice what they preach.
He can say what he likes, not many people believe him, and it is with certainty that I say his sandiwara of trying to assure the people that everything is okay is falling flat.
He is lying and has no intention of telling the truth. Is he deaf and dumb so much so he can't see what is happening around him?
A children's home in Ipoh with 40 children gets a Welfare grant of $2000/- per annum, and we are talking about poverty eradication for all races. http://allofhelen.blogspot.com/2007/10/childrens-home.html
The most obvious casualties of the NEP has been the poor of the Indian community. They are growing in numbers, and very much worse off than the Malay community.
There was a proposal floated a few months ago for NEP-like programs to assist the most needy Indian poor - promptly shot down by the government, and that definitely includes Pak Lah.
Dear Malaysian,
Don't you get tired of all this? It will go on and on and on and on and on and...NEP remember?
Uh? For all what? Are we Malaysians? Still the govt practises divide and rule. So, don't buy it or rather say don't bite it, it's a bait tofish votes from non-umnoputras, can u smell the ballots? It's near, GE is near when UMNO throws out baits like this. Beware people!!
Now it dawns on me, how it was possible for our foreign minister Syed Hamid Albar to lie through his teeth during his recent interview in BBCs Hardtalk.
His boss is a even BIGGER liar!!!
BN is but a den of liars & thieves!
Vote BN not!

Very good blog but I m not sure if the opinions are based on on facts or just assumptions. Would nt it be good if we can compile some statistics for example, how many Indians, malays etc are hardcore poor in one site so that everybdy can see the numbers. I actually browsed the statistics some time ago and was astounded to find out that the average income of malays are much less than indians. Maybe it's caused by averaging out the numbers.
i would have trusted what this charlattan said 4 years ago. now, his true colours are for all to see. if you want to believe what he says, go ahead. I cant force you.
for me, he brings his position and his religion into disrepute by his lies. thats all.
