'Lingamgate' Video Investigation Panel Can Make Conclusions But Cannot Call Witnesses, Says Najib!
There is no ambiguity in the terms of reference given to the independent panel set up to determine the authenticity of a video clip showing a lawyer purportedly discussing judicial appointments with a senior judge, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said today.
The deputy prime minister said the panel was not supposed to call witnesses and knew their terms of reference.
He was speaking to reporters after launching the book, "Your Rights and the Law", written by the Defence Ministry's Judge Advocate General, Teo Say Eng.
The panel, set up on Sept 25, is headed by former Chief Judge of Malaya Tan Sri Haidar Mohd Noor. The other two members are social activist Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye and former Court of Appeal judge Datuk Mahadev Shankar.
Najib was commenting on the panel's power to investigate and verify the authenticity of the video clip.
The panel had its first meeting today, attended also by Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail and Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan.
Asked whether the panel would be able to make conclusions, Najib said it could although it had no power to call witnesses. (Bernama)
*****What kind of sham investigation is this? If the government is serious about getting to the bottom of this sordid episode then why put such a stifling restriction on the panel? It's as if the powers that be don't want the panel to find out that something is stinking to high heavens in our judiciary and God forbid there might be a rotting fish head at the apex court.
I'm not really that surprised though. Sweeping dirt under the carpet has become a national pastime while burying the truth, shooting the messenger and covering up corrupt acts have all become so commonplace that it might as well be included in the party manifesto for the next general elections.

You said it well, I fully agree.
What a pathetic sham the so called "Investigation Panel" is and a complete waste of time. How the hell can they investigate if the cannot call witnesses and cross examine them? (Of course the personalities and the terms of reference are carefully chosen to ensure that the outcome is a foregone conclusion) Najib is well past his sell-by date and needs to be discarded. All is well in Malaysia the SNAFU status-quo is maintained!!!!
One more step towards the abyss, but fear not, judgement day will without doubt soon come for Najib and his ilk.
One word: S-A-N-D-I-W-A-R-A
Not surprised at all. The immigration officer who erased Altantuya and her companions entry records was not called at all as a witness, so as to protect the murderer(s).
So how does the panel come to a conclusion if it cannot summon VK Lingam ?
a sham within a sham. all information must be sieved by the police and the ACA before it goes to the panel. what is the panel's role? just to compile information given by the government's appendages and try having the panel imparting some form of credibility.already, the panel's composition is in question, Najib!
Another Malaysia boleh! This is just fanstatic! Wow!! Before the Panel comes to conclusion, Najib already know the outcome, no need to call witness.... I say man, since Naj know so much already, why not ask him to anounce that the the video is a fake? And why set up a panel when there is nothing to investigate?
Kerchang....!!
That's the sound of the drop in our Transparency Ranking!
It's akin to sending our best soldiers to war armed with the latest assault weapon but not giving them the bullets!!!
