Pak Lah Congratulates Dr Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor

Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has congratulated Dr Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor Sheikh Mustapha for being picked as Malaysia's first angkasawan (cosmonaut) who will go on a space mission tomorrow.

"I wish to congratulate him. I'm very happy that our man has been chosen for this special mission into space. I hope that he'll do well ," he told reporters after chairing the Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) board meeting here today.

"I'm sure the Russians know best after having conducted the test. They have done everything they could to ensure that the person who is finally selected for the mission will be the one who is capable of performing the task that is assigned to him," he said.

Dr Sheikh Muszaphar was picked by the Russian Space Agency (Roscosmos) selection panel to join American Commander Peggy Whitson and Russian flight engineer Yuri Malenchenko for the space mission that will blast off from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan at 7.21pm local time (9.21pm Malaysian time).

The 35-year-old orthopaedic surgeon from Seremban will spend 10 days on the International Space Station.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said Dr Sheikh Muszaphar was chosen on merit, his suitability to become an angkasawan and ability to conduct scientific experiments during his space sojourn. (Bernama)

***** We too should offer our congratulations to the successful angkasawan. This blog wishes
Dr Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor Sheikh Mustapha all the very best in this space trip and may God protect him and his fellow crew members throughout the historic and momentous journey. Indeed we should all be very, very proud that a Malaysian has finally made it to space and may this be the beginning of a new era of space research and innovation in Malaysia.

Come on-lah, if Dollah is willing to pay the Russians USD 30 million x 1,000 = USD 30 billion, there will be 1,000 Malaysian "spaceflight participants"

So nothing much to brag about

Sorry, but I cannot see anything to be proud about. This guy is just going to be a paid passenger. Anyone who is reasonably fit and has the money, could do the same trip. The so called experiments are just contrived spin to try to justify wasting so much taxpayers money on what is just an election gimmick by UMNO.
The tangible benefits to Malaysia will be zero. Much ado about nothing.

Russians have conducted tests and they should know best? YOu have got to be kidding. Pay them 30 million dollars and anyone, even a chimp will make it as a cosmonaut. There is nothing to be proud of and the nation is gaining nothing in terms of scientific advancement unless we're all planning to make roti canai in zero gravity. Think of what that money could have been used for. This is a disgusting mismanagement of public funds... again.

I agree that it is indeed a waste of national resources which could be channeled to more needy projects like
education.

The one thing which puts me off though, is the hype by the Umno leadership.”

Dear Sir,

From your previous posting on the same matter, I would like to stress on two points.

1. The average hoi polloi doesn’t give a dammed if our cosmonaut is an angkasamad, angkasachong or angkasamy. What pisses them of is the way the deal was done as a sweetener from an arms deal. Hmm.. What’s that smell wharfing through? Smells like corruption or do you have nasal congestion? Anysawan who mucks around with shit gets shit all over! Does the end justify the means?

2. I agree that it’s but an expensive hype by UMNO, paid for indirectly by the rakyat! Just like the recent Merdeka celebration which cost the taxpayer RM100million.The moment you hijack something noble & turn it into a horn blowing session it looses its shine & becomes another “Jom Heboh” event.

As such I cannot share your sentiment on this matter, however to quote Voltaire:
“I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.”

Sour grapes? Insulting? No, none of these. Of all comment, a Malaysian being "chosen". that's the greatest "lie". It was tagged along with negotiations of the arm deal. This is what pissed most Malaysians. Who cares whether the "chosen" is Chinese or Indians. It has got NOTHING to do with race, dear anonymous. It is the way, this bodohwi government desperately and foolishly wanting to build an image, thinking Malaysians (not the stupid ones, anyway) would go "waaaah" breathlessly adoring the UMNO leadership. Sorry, there is still intelligence and wisdom in most of us.

thinking donkey

What's there to be proud off?? BTW, being a fool once is enough; no more future expedition! Unless we have the technology, don't ever dream of it again by wasting our tax monies.

Anon. of 09:08 AM MYT. Very well said, I wholehearted agree with all you said. The BN has a lot to answer for, especially billions of Ringgit the peoples money syphoned off and squandered, leaving Malaysia as a third world nation pretending to be otherwise.

Wtf, does Najis know the meaning of the word "merit"? if he does then he should know he is not fit to be the DPM.

Najis says the NEP is necessary to correct 400 years of exploitation and oppression by the Portuguese, Dutch and the English. What has got to do with Chinese and Indian Malaysians who, mind you, are also wakil rakyat. Najis should declare war, or at least economic sanctions against Portugaal, France and UK if he feels so strongly about the past.
As usual what comes out from Najis' mouth is all crap and shit.
