Is The U.S. Army At Breaking Point?

U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates admitted Wednesday that the U.S. Army is under severe stress and "out of balance," although he denied that it's broken by the Iraq war.

Addressing the annual meeting of the Association of the United States Army, Gates also said he recognized the fact that the army has been under-funded, and that the U.S. government needs to provide enough money for personnel and equipment in the coming years.

One day earlier, Army Chief of Staff General George Casey said six years of war has taxed the U.S. military, which is "out of balance."

"We are consuming our readiness as quickly as we are building it," Casey said.

As the Iraq war drags on, many U.S. military leaders have been concerned the Army has been stretched too thin and is approaching its breaking point.

***** What is really surprising though is the news that the Bush Administration is seriously considering an attack on Iran in the near future. With the present Iraq quagmire bleeding the U.S. defence forces it would be foolish for them to risk another disastrous misadventure.

The expected American bombing of Iran's strategic sites from the air does not require its invasion, which would require huge manpower and hence casualties.

With that piece of shit G W Bush as C in C, the US army is of course doomed, as is the whole US of A.
The fine American people are suffering under the leadership of this ignoramus, the sooner they dump him the better for the USA and for the whole world. "George W, you are the weakest link - goodbye!"

The day when hydrogen fuel cells become commercially viable will see the withdrawal of US from the Middle East other than to protect Israel, regardless of who the President is.

Other than that, they will continue to sell arms to whoever wants to kill each other there.

What we are overlooking here is the use of depleted uranium weapons in Iraq.

Depleted uranium is lethal in infinitesimally-small doses. It cannot be removed from the body once ingested. It goes through all protective gear. It has a half life of 4.5 billion years.

A whole generation of American soldiers - if you count Iraq 1 in 1991, then two generations of American soldiers - have been lethally exposed to depleted uranium, which is used in shells and bombs.

Expect them all to be terribly sick and most to die.

The American military has known about the terrible effects of DU for decades. In effect they have sacrificed their army in this war, not to mention the impact on Iraq itself.
