I'm Fair To All Races, Says Pak Lah

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said he is being fair to all races in making decisions on matters affecting their interests, including in the distribution of economic wealth, reports Bernama.

"I am your Prime Minister representing all the races... I have to be fair to all," he said when opening the Convention of the United Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Murut Organisation (UPKO), here today.

Abdullah said he was giving serious attention to whatever problems raised by the Baisan Nasional (BN) component parties including UPKO.

"What is being raised by the UPKO Convention is a serious matter. But I believe that with the spirit of tolerance, we can resolve the matter," he said.

In the UPKO Convention this time, several hot issues were debated by the delegates, including the fear over the unhealthy trend in relations between the various faiths and races such as the question over child custody and common properties between the husband and wife.

Abdullah said that there were certain legal provisions which sometimes appeared to be `excessive'. However, he said if there was a need, such provisions could be amended for the benefit of all parties.

Under certain circumstances, the Prime Minister said he had to have a stand to clear the confusion over issues affecting public interest. "For example, the question whether our country is a secular country or otherwise. I have to make a stand. I have to have mercy, (to be) just and fair to the people," he said.

On Aug 5, Abdullah had said that Malaysia was neither a secular country nor a theocracy. On the other hand, Malaysia practised parliamentary democracy, adding that the government adopted elements that reflected the multi-racial and multi-religious composition of the population.

Abdullah called on the BN component parties to continue to uphold the spirit of consensus as a culture to preserve party unity. "We reach a consensus every time we decide on an election manifesto. We reach a consensus every time we decide on seat allocation and we also reach a consensus when we have to decide on the Cabinet line-up and the deputy ministers and so on. Sometimes we decide based on the circumstances and not based on equality, but equity," he said.

On the concept of `Islam Hadhari' or Civilisational Islam, the Prime Minister said the principles of `hadhari' was not confrontational, but involved all aspects of life such as the environment, family, and laws which could be applied in the lives of non-Muslims.

"I'm a Muslim and I follow what is being taught in Islam and others can follow what they believe in," he said.

Pak Lah if you are fair to all races then pigs can fly. Pls explain:

1) Why it took 20 years to finally grant approval for the Shah Alam church which must be built not to resemble a church but a factory?

2) Why is taxpayers money spent on race based fundings. ie. MARA,FELDA,FAMA & numerous study loans etc

3) Why is taxpayers money never used to fund religious buildings of other races besides muslims?

4) Why is it OK for your Minister of Education to wave the keris & bay for blood yet wrong for a lowly student in Taiwan to sing of his angst.

I can go on ad nauseam.

You have been talking the talk for the past 4 years yet failed to walk the talk.

It's time to go take a hike.

I am fed up with the corrupt, inefficent & racist BN led by yourgoodself.

I am certain a large percentage of the rakyat shares my sentiment.

Vote BN Not.

Come on, PM, you can repeat that line over and over and over again until the cow comes home, but unless we see you doing it, we will find it really really hard to believe you. In the last three and half years, it is already bad to see you siding one community and neglecting the others. But what has rubbed salt into the wound is that you penalised the non-Malays as well. I would like to believe you, but then again, I find it so impossible to do so.

The first thing I would suggest to our PM is instead of referring to the spirit of tolerance, please re-phrase that to say the spirit of acceptance.

As a Bangsa Malaysia and proponent of Islam Hadhari, he should accept all Malaysians and not tolerate them. In that manner, all Malaysians will feel included rather than being on the periphery.

Which is which now? Hadhari could be applied in the lives of non-Muslims, but at the same time non-Muslims can follow what they believe in. This is confusing. I am a non-Muslim and my believes clash with that of Hadhati, which then takes precedence?

Logic. How can a person claims to represents ALL races when divisive and discriminatory policies rule a country. Second, how can he claim representation when he is only elected by a couple of thousand delegates which also represented a certain percentage of the same race and millions of Malaysians who did not elect him in. These are facts of the case. Unlike in the US, a republic system, whereby its citizens voted for its president. Who elected the prime minister in this country? Through the ballot box? How many voted him in? Is it by eligible voters involving malaysians of all races? Talk facts, not rhetorics!! We have had enough of all these bullshit!!

Honestly, I say I don't blame Pak Lah, In this particular country, not just one race, Pak Lah need to face other races circumstances, If Pak Lah side us non-Muslim, the circumstances are the Muslim will stirred up like what happen in MAY 13, 1969, not a single souls want this incident reoccur again. Pak Lah mind is he has to balance both parties the Muslim and Non Muslim so he establish Hadhari to ensure unity and peace in this country. We Malaysian have to give and take, forgive and forget about the past, What I can say is prevent sensitives issues and things may cause disunity. I'm not tried to side anyone here, I just in the middle, I look at both aspect, No one here's try to degraded Malaysia Malaysian but to encourage changes. And Furthermore, I disagreed with Anonymous said...

He just don't understand the circumstances which occurred in this country, I just wanna tell you we're human although we born different colors and came from different country and we're not in your religion but we're still human and in your holy scripture has mention we need to have unity and peace with races among us. Did you forget what the Prophet said when he was in Madinah, everyone need to be united whether he or she is Muslim or not and love each other ................ if you forget read back your scripture or read form 4 History book .......... inside there stated clearly
