Internal Security Ministry Bans 37 Publications On Islam Containing 'Twisted Facts'.
In a continuation of the earlier banning of several books, the government has decided to play it safe and banned a further 37 publications and books on Islam, claiming that they contained twisted facts that can 'undermine' the faith of Muslims.
According to Bernama , Secretary of the Publications and Quranic Texts Control Division Che Din Yusoh said that 21 of the publications were in the English language and published in the United States, United Kingdom and Jordan while 16 were in Bahasa Malaysia and published in Malaysia and Indonesia.
All the book titles and publications were banned by a prohibition order under the Printing Presses and Publications Act 1984, he said in a statement.
He said the prohibition order was imposed on the publications because their contents and text on Islam twisted facts and true Islamic teachings or contained elements that misled the faithful and humiliated the prophets.
"These publications can cause confusion and apprehension among Muslims and eventually jeopardise public order," he added.
The list of book titles and publications, the names of the authors, compilers or translators and publishers as well as the country of publication are contained in the Government Gazzette dated April 26 2007.
***** How a mere 37 books, no matter how convincingly written can 'jeopardise' public order beats me. But any text belittling or humiliating the prophets is reason enough for its removal and the ministry is well within its rights to have done so.

I read one of the banned books - The Life and Times of Muhammad by Sir John Glubb when I was overseas. Glubb Pasha, as he was known, was a respected Arabist scholar and soldier, the last British commander of the Arab Legion - the Jordanian Army. The book was factual and respectful of Prophet Mohammad.
Glubb Pasha never converted to Islam, but he was deeply immersed in Islam and Arab history and culture.
As a non-Muslim I'm not sure whether parts of it may conflict with the standard Muslim "paradigm" in Malaysia.
