Red Alert: Strong Winds And High Waves Expected To Hit 8 States
Red Alert for eight States as 5.5 metre waves, 50 to 60km winds and heavy rain are expected to pound them until Wednesday.
The Meteorological Department has warned of floods in low-lying areas, strong winds expected to rip roofs of homes along the coast and emergency teams directed to be on standby,
The department attributed cumulus cloud development on the South China Sea and heavy moisture build up on the northern section of the Straits of Malacca to warn authorities to be on alert in Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Northern Perak and coastal areas of Sabah.
The department’s senior assistant director Ambun Dindang said this morning they decided to raise the status to “red” after discovering strong wind and monsoon rain activities off the Malaysian shores. (NST)
