Najib Says No Action Against Zaid For His Comments On PM. Do You Know Why?

Of course no action wil be taken against Barisan Nasional's (BN) Kota Baharu MP Datuk Zaid Ibrahim who criticised the administration and the Prime Minister. You see the government dares to take action only against those who won't fight back, like that poor MIC guy Sothinathan.

After all Sothinathan is a minor functionary in the MIC where only Samy Vellu matters. Zaid however is a different kettle of fish. Try to be funny with him and he may very well turn around and give a bloody nose to the leadership. That as you know will set a very bad precedent, and it is better to maintain a facade of invincibilty by refraining from taking action than letting the whole world see how fragile Umno 'unity' really is.

Najib however gives it a very nice touch of high-class bullshit by saying that the government under Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi encourages Members of Parliament to speak out in Parliament so long as they follow the rules. "He can give whatever views he wants in Parliament so long as he does not contravene the standing orders of Parliament and we will take into account what he said." Let not Ong Tee Keat take Najib at his word and say half the things that Zaid did. He'll be out on his rear in a jiffy. For such is the real world of Umno politics.

During the debate on Budget 2007 in the Dewan Rakyat last week, Zaid said the Prime Minister had still not brought any reform as promised after three years in the post. What stronger indictment can there be than that from a ruling party MP? I wonder what would happen to, for example, Koh Tsu Koon if he ever said those same words in the Penang State Assembly or if some small time MCA/Gerakan MP were to repeat Zaid's statement in Parliament. Different strokes for different folks mate. That's what keeps Malaysia going.

Najib also said that Abdullah himself hoped BN MPs could play a more effective role so that the people would not turn to the opposition. However, the BN MPs should bear in mind that they must continue to support the government and the Prime Minister, he added. Isn't it an insult that MPs have to be publicly reminded that they should continue supporting the PM? So much for the trust that Najib has in his Umno parliamentarians. Now we know why Zaid is treated with kid gloves don't we?
