The Thieving Bankers Are At It Again.

Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) has clarified that a fee of RM2 will be applicable for over-the-counter (OTC) cash withdrawals of RM4,500 and below, for selected account categories effective Sept 1, 2006.

Maybank's head of consumer banking, Spencer Lee, said the fee was not a means to create additional income for the bank as it would only be applicable to less than 15 per cent of its customers.

"Instead, we are trying to persuade this group to join the majority of our other customers who are already using self-service terminals, for which we have invested significantly and which operate beyond banking hours," Lee said.

"It will also reduce queue time and allow us to provide better service to customers who require more attention for specialised transactions at counters," he said in a statement Wednesday.

Lee said the new fee would not be applicable to several categories of customers.

Among them are senior citizens (aged 55 years and above), minor account holders (below 18 years of age), disabled/handicapped customers, charitable organisations, clubs/societies accounts, all basic savings account or basic current account holders, and joint account (both to sign) holders who are not eligible for ATM (automated teller machine) facility.

Others include customers whose ATM cards cannot be read by the machine, customers whose ATM cards are retained by the machine, customers who lose their ATM card and are unable to apply for a new ATM card as he/she lost the identity card, and business customers as they are not eligible for ATM card.

The fee will also not be applicable when the ATM facility at the branch is out-of-service.

"Customers who withdraw amounts above RM4,500 will continue to be provided OTC cash withdrawals with no fee," Lee said.

He said the amount of RM4,500 was set as this amount could be withdrawn via the ATMs at no cost through three transactions of RM1,500 each.

Cash withdrawals of RM1,500 per occasion at Maybank ATMs are free of charge, irrespective of how many times in a month it is performed, he added.

**** So those of you rich guys who withdraw large amounts, don't worry - no extra charge for you. It is only the poor sod who withdraws a smaller amount who gets shafted. How unfair. We have to pay these lazy imbeciles money to withdraw our own cash!

I suggest that if they keep on adding one new charge after another it is better to change to a more caring bank if you can find one. Where is Bank Negara when we need it?

hmmm i saw the sign at the maybank hq the other day ... i dont see the reason why ...

not everyone withdraws 4.5k everyday

even so, i dont see why you dont want to do it over the atm, its just 3 transactions of 1.5k each, but of course, if you have done 4 transaction that month, means they will charge you RM1.5 for the 4.5k withdrawal ...

Why go through the hassle of parking your car and walking to a restaurant to dine when you could 'drivethru' and takeaway? Basically it's a matter of choice, and one should not be penalised for exercising the right to choose.

Whatever Maybank does, they have Bank Negara's blessing! Why I think this Spencer Lee guy must have been working for a Jewish bank to make such profits for this lazy bank.
Unfortunately, Malaysian, I too am struck with this accursed bank for my banking needs as you say, they are the only ones near my house, office regular watering-hole !!!

Last time these blood suckers wanted to charge its internet banking users (was it RM 10 per year ? ), a big outcry forced them to abandon the idea.

I won't hesitate to close all my facilities with them if they try to impose the internet banking annual fee.

While internet banking saves them a lot of expenses , they wanted to increase their profit by imposing annual fee.

What a greedy lots !!!!!!!!!!!!!1
