Naza Motor To Open Assembly Plant In India?

Ever the consummate businessman who can smell cold cash from a distance, Tan Sri Nasimuddin Amin apparently turned his sights to an already expanding Indian car market which could be ripe for the plucking. It'll be indeed a great achievement if he could penetrate the hitherto closed auto industry in that rapidly industrialising nation.

Naza Automotive Manufacturing Sdn Bhd, a leading automobile manufacturer in Malaysia, is planning to go international by setting up an assembly plant in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, possibly in Chennai.

Discussions will be held on Thursday between the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M. Karunanithi and a delegation to be led by Works Minister Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu that would include Naza Group of Companies chairman Tan Sri SM Nasimuddin SM Amin in Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu.

Samy Vellu said the discussion would centre on the possibility of securing a land from the Tamil Nadu state government for the assembly plant.

"Tan Sri Nasimuddin met me recently to seek my help to meet with the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister since I will be in Chennai to attend an international conference tomorrow," he said in a statement.

Samy Vellu will leave for Chennai tonight to deliver a paper on "Sharing Experience Among Smart Partners: India and Malaysia" at the Infratech 2006 Conference organised by the Indian Institute of Technology and Madras-Chennai All India Manufacturers' Organisation and co-sponsored by IJM Corporation Bhd.

The minister's delegation would also include senior Works Ministry officials.

Samy Vellu said he would also discuss other investment projects such as in the construction sector with Karunanithi.

See? its the tragedy of commons. The govt. puts money in the pocket of a few special people from the coffers of the population but they are not going to plow back into the country. its safer to invest elsewhere so that when your popularity dips or change of heads, you still have a parachute.

Check whether this lucky guy fly the Jalur Gemilang. But he don't - no time to fly the flag when you have to laugh your way to the bank!!
