Nazri Says No Breach Of Security In Flyers Case

An internal inquiry has ruled out any breach of security in the Dewan Rakyat in the discovery of three flyers last Wednesday concerning tycoon Tan Sri Tajudin Ramli's purchase and sale of Malaysia Airlines (MAS) shares. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Aziz said an examination of the closed circuit television recording showed there was no "serious breach of Parliament's privileges".

"The recording did not show any movement by either the heralds (Dewan Rakyat attendants) or anyone else indicating the action of an individual distributing the flyers. "We are convinced there was no intrusion," he told reporters in the Parliament lobby today after being briefed on the internal inquiry.

Two of the flyers were entitled "Tuntutan Balas Tajuddin Ramli Terhadap Danaharta, Mengapa Dia Berbuat Begitu?" (Counter Claim by Tajuddin Against Danaharta, Why Did He do it?) and its English translation. The third was entitled "The Tajuddin Ramli Bombshell: Who Is the Real Culprit?".

Mohamed Nazri said the case was closed and no MP would be called to give evidence. There was also no need to make a police report, he said.

Asked who could have distributed the flyers, Nazri said he did not want to speculate but did not rule out the possibility that it was the work of people who had the right to enter the Dewan. He said that a herald would be assigned for duty in the Dewan before each sitting and during the recess to prevent a similar occurrence.

Another intriguing whodunnit! Unless one believes in the supernatural and 'spirits' (or a toyo-l perhaps), who somehow sneak in, to place Tajuddin Ramli flyers in Parliament, the only interpretation of Nazri's statement is that it is an inside job thats better not talked about. The very fact he said that there was no 'serious' breach of Parliament's privileges implies there was a less than serious breach, doesn't it? Anyway there is no use in engaging in semantics on what is basically not a big issue, apart from the very serious security aspect. If security had not been compromised then we need not worry too much and let the whole incident pass.
