Is This A Realistic Plan Or Merely Paying Lip Service?
Umno Youth is working to form a common front with the youth movements of political parties from Asean countries to pressure the big powers to stop Israel's attack on Palestine and Lebanon. The movement's vice chief Khairy Jamaluddin said this was among the actions being taken by it to help stop the Israeli blitz.
"We also want the big powers, including the G8 nations, to issue a resolution condemning Israel for causing the death of many civilians," he told reporters. He also hinted of a drastic action that would be taken by the movement on the issue but declined to elaborate, saying that it would be announced at the appropriate time.
Meanwhile, the Johor Umno Youth today urged the International Trade and Industry Ministry to cease issuing import permits for food items from Israel.
How many countries do you think are going to stick out their neck for this half-baked idea? Indonesia as usual will try to scupper any initiative that comes from Malaysia without prior consultation with Jakarta. As for Thailand, Singapore, Phillipines and perhaps even Brunei you can forget it. That leaves the newer member nations and God knows what their reaction will be. Chances are that they will politely back out.
In the first place what possible influence or pressure can a small fry like Umno youth exert on a belligerent Israel? As if the US or any other important member of the UN or the G8 could even be bothered to consider Umno youth's proposal. Which brings me back to my original question. Is Umno youth engaging in a sandiwara to placate those ill-informed Muslims here who feel that we genuinely have an international clout disproportionate to our size and strength? Or do they really feel that they can make a difference and turn the tide in that part of the world where successive US administrations have failed? My instinct tells me it is nothing but a sandiwara. What do you think?

Dear Sir,
I read with amusement at the suggestions of our 'wiras'to bring drastic action against a recalcitrant state like Isreal to its knees!
What 'justice' are the'thambys' talking about ? Do they even know how to pronounce the word ? Yes , all this bull-s**t is for the ears of the simple-minded kampung folks by'kampung wiras or vallas'.Ask them to clean up their s**t in this, here kampung first before turning their attention on international issues. We are not impressed by their half-baked ideas !
As you say, even the big boys in OIC,NAM,G8 and UN are keeping mum or turning the other way AND what has our 'elegant silence' PM commented so far ? Or maybe this whole episode was not brought to his attention yet as he was out of the country!
