Anwar Urges ACA - Investigate Samy Vellu.

The denial of any involvement by Dato' Seri Samy Vellu regarding the delay in the Martrade building scandal is a serious matter says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. He said that it was the Works Ministry that proposed to the Finance Ministry (when Anwar was the Finance Minister) to approve the tender to a subsidiary of the Selangor state government, namely Perangsang International Sdn Bhd (PISB).

Samy Vellu had earlier alleged that his ministry had in fact recommended that the tender be awarded to Ireka Construction Berhad, but the finance ministry then under Anwar instead selected PISB.

Amwar who is also adviser to Parti Keadilan Rakyat (KeADILan) urged the ACA to investigate Samy Vellu in connection with the Martrade building scandal.

In a press conference at his residence Anwar said that the Treasury followed the instructions of the Jawatankuasa Tender chaired by the then deputy finance minister (present MB of Johor), Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Othman.

He said that the works ministry is trying to take the easy way out by avoiding responsibility and pointing fingers at the finance ministry when the Martrade building construction was inordinately delayed.

Anwar explained that in approving a tender there were several steps in processing eg. the Bahagian Kontrak will study the proposal and forward it to the Jawatankuasa Tender. In the case of the Martrade building his officers in the finance ministry were extra careful because of interference from the Works Minister.

He further urged the ACA to investigate other projects involving the Works Ministry, including the Lebuhraya MRR2 which he claimed has elements of bribery and criminal involvement.
