Khir Toyo Disappointed With Media Negativity

If Khir Toyo had his way all newspapers, periodicals and magazines will highlight only happy news. No more stories of divorces, deaths, accidents, suicides or condemnation of state mentris besar. The media will be bringing only cheer to the people and tell them everyday that semua-nya OK.

If Khir Toyo could wish it, there will be no obituaries, no reports of court cases involving 'celebrities' and no accounts of landslides, corruption or slanging matches between national leaders.

Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo Saturday expressed his disappointment that the media's emphasis was more to the negative than positive in matters involving celebrities. He said the tendency was to play up their suffering than their happiness and often on the front page. Examples, he said were of celebrities getting divorced and failed engagements for marriage.

Speaking at a seminar on the family institution here today, he said the media should come out with more reports on celebrities that served as inspirations for Malaysians.

Imagine looking at the morning papers and the headline is "Smile, no bad news for yet another day!" Come on Toyo. The world is bigger than you and me. You get the good with the bad. That goes for you too personally. Any more goof-ups on your part and the media and blogs will be there exposing your every mistake. Hey you're a celebrity. People want to read about you especially your gaffes.

He also said the practice of kissing the hands of parents and elders should be promoted as the younger generation seemed to be placing less emphasis on it.

Now this is one point on which I wholeheartedly agree with you. It is a unique and special Malay tradition that should always be preserved.
