Govt To Improve Ethnic Diversity In Public Service. We've Heard That Claim Before Haven't We?

The Government will be "blind" to gender, colour and creed when it comes to recruiting civil servants.

That is the assurance given by Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Sidek Hassan who said the plan was to attract the best to work in the public sector.

"We are determined to improve ethnic diversity in the public service through recruitment and career development programmes. Our target is to employ the best and the rest speaks for itself.

"This is part of our commitment to ensure the public gets the best service from its public sector, where the public delivery system runs efficiently and effectively," he told the media in a special briefing Wednesday. (The Star)

***** About time. For far too long has the civil service been ridiculously lopsided in terms of race. But well-meaning claims like that of
Tan Sri Mohd Sidek have been made before and nothing significant came out at the end.

The racial inequality in the public service was aggravated after Tun Dr Mahathir's 'Isi Penuh' directive in the early eighties and the momentum just kept getting stronger and within a few years the disparity reached almost scandalous levels.

Every time a voice of reason pointed out the unfair composition of the service and proposals were made to correct the imbalance, inevitably strong, rabid voices of fanaticism rose like tsunamis to drown out any attempt to redress the injustice.

It is very possible that the present move too would meet the same fate.

Another load of BS...but then again, it's the silly season (read: election time) so expect more of these ridiculous statements. And oh!, since it's all BS, i suggest everyone just stop reading the newspaper and go online instead. That way, more tress need not 'die' in vain.

It's not going to work. Period.
Firstly the people at the top are not sincere when they say this kind of thing.
Secondly the Malay has this inbuilt thing in their head that they are and should be given preference in everything. The people who are going to interview potential civil servants are the one going to determine if one gets to enter the service and unfortunately these interviewers have the 'ketuanan melayu' shit well established in their blood.

IF the leaders start this apparent 'colour blind' movement now sincerely, maybe in about 15 years time we we can see some broad-minded senior people willing to take non-malay into the civil service.

But if anyone think that the top leadership is sincere in what they are saying, well, I wish you good luck.

The key word is sincere.

GE is coming lah...what do you expect.
Obviously they are out to keep the Non-Malay votes.
It has worked in the past so they expect it to work again now.
After the Elections every promise is forgotten. We have seen it in the past, we will see it again now!
We believed them in the past, are we to beileve them again now? They think we are that stupid! The question is are we that stupid?!

Yes, most of the Malaysians are stupid. They keep voting BN back to power for the past 50 years no matter what.

You and me and some Malaysian who voted Opposition are rare breed.

It's a losing game for the past 50 years & may be for another 50 years.
