Hishammuddin Proud To Mention Education Is Free In Malaysia
Education Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said today that he was proud to mention that education in Malaysia is free when he spoke at Unesco's 34th general conference in Paris recently.
He said the people should regard the free education as the government's recognition of them and as such, should not deny their children education.
"At least be proud and convinced that the educational opportunity for our children is free," he told reporters at Parliament's lobby after winding-up debate for his ministry in Dewan Rakyat.
He said the secondary and primary school fees abolished in the 2008 Budget cost the government RM30 million while the school textbook scheme for the students cost RM130 million.
On Oct 24, Hishammuddin was elected as an executive board member of Unesco with 147 votes, the highest among Asia-Pacific countries at this year's Unesco's general conference.
In his winding-up speech on the Supply Bill 2008, he reminded schools not to regard contributions for the PTA, computer club, sports apparel, stationery, ties, additional classes and hostel were also abolished.
He said the ministry had reminded principals and headmasters to fix a reasonable PTA fee so that it would not burden parents. (Bernama)
***** Oh how proud our caring Education Minister must be! Free schooling for all man. Of course he inadvertently failed to mention that it is only at the tertiary level when half the citizens in this fair land of ours have to beg and borrow large sums of money or mortgage their houses to send their kids for a decent education which is denied them by unfair and unjust government policies.
He also omitted the fact that he has been in the forefront of the keris-wielding demagogues who have vehemently objected whenever the subject of equality in education opportunities came up.
