Former IGP Tun Hanif's House Burgled

Former Inspector General of Police Tun Hanif Omar's house in USJ 12 was burgled at 6.30am this morning. Fortunately nobody was harmed during the burglary. All that the thieves managed to get away with were a DVD player and a bunch of keys.

However it seems a little odd that there are quite a number of senior police officials, mostly retired, whose houses have been targeted in the recent past. Is there a pattern to these apparently random thefts or is there something more sinister?

Only yesterday the former IGP had opined that the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) should be independent of the executive. Tun Hanif has also lately been outspoken on corruption in the police force. Could this and other burglaries at the homes of these senior police officers be a veiled threat by certain 'interested' quarters? A sort of warning not to rock the perahu as well as to show that his status as former top cop does not guarantee his safety and that he is as vulnerable as the next guy? Your guess is as good as mine.

if the former top cop is not safe from these criminal activties, who will? instead of focussing on reducing crime, unfortunately, the police spend more time on maning road blocks to nap speedsters, infighting with the deputy minister and investigating superfluous accusations by UMNO buggers against bloggers.

The above is a quote from your posting.I am surprised at it because the report from the EDGE says something very different. It says :

Former Inspector-General of Police Tun Mohd Hanif Omar has called for the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) to be independent of direct or indirect political control."

Please check your report and if you have misquoted Tun Haniff you should apologise because it tarnishs his integrity and character.

Thanks for pointing out the error delphi. It should read - "that the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) should be independent of the executive" Typographical mistake corrected.

I feel sorry for Tun Hanif and family, but I suspect that this might well have been more than a common burglary. Former IGP's house burgled? That's rich. There's no way this can look good:

(1) If it was indeed nothing but a common burglary, then it's just another statistic in our ridiculously high crime rate and another nail in the coffin for PDRM credibility. There are more nails than wood in this coffin.

(2) If it was a 'targeted' raid (considering how 'professional' our criminals are, it's strange that they got away with so little), then what does that say about the 'interested parties' resorting to gutter tactics like these?

50 years ago criminals were put behind bars with high walls & the citizens walked free.

50 years on, the criminals walk free & the citizen stays behind bars with high walls!

Merdeka? Merdeka? Merdeka?

Nothing is surprising anymore in this BodohLand. If goats can be stolen from Praa Laah's kampung house, anything can be stolen from anybody's bigsort mansion. Remember, at one time during Dr Mahathir's tenure, the airport security was so lax that prompted the former PM sarcastically said, "The next time could be a boeing plane missing." (something to this effect). But the level and rate of criminal activities could have reached a new high, barring real statistics from appearing in public. Only last week, a Chinese newspaper reported more than 100 foreigners rampaging shops in a commercial area in KL. And many many more isolated criminal incidents that went unreported, is no longer even at worrying level but close to panicky concerns. No late nights especially supper out, is a no. no. It is a national issue that will take its toll against BN at the coming general elections refuelled by speculations to be definitely this November, the year of the Pig.
