Chan Kong Choy Back At Work. Denies Cancer Rumours

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Chan Kong Choy Wednesday declined to reveal the ailment he has been diagnosed with, saying: "it's a personal thing".

"This is a very personal thing," was all he said when prodded by reporters.

"I'm fine now. I'm okay. Thanks to everyone who showed their concern," the MCA deputy president said at his office after returning from the weekly cabinet meeting.

He started work today after going on a two-week medical leave to Australia.

On his arrival at the KL International Airport from Melbourne yesterday, Chan denied rumours that he has been diagnosed with cancer.

Queried on his purported resignation front-paged by Sin Chew Daily last Friday, Chan said he never tendered any resignation letter.

"You ask the people who started the rumours. I've made a statement, the prime minister has clarified about it and now I'm back in office (to resume work). I didn't start the rumours," he said.

Asked whether the cabinet discussed about his health condition and the rumours, Chan said it did not.

Asked whether the rumours affected him, Chan said: "In political life, this is normal, I've got used to all kinds of rumours."

Chan did not take questions on his ministry. (Bernama)

***** We hope that the minister is fine and the rumours are just that, rumours. Cancer is a terrible condition which hopefully no one should get.
