IGP Tan Sri Musa Hassan's Service Extended Till Sept 13, 2009

Tan Sri Musa Hassan's service as Inspector-General of Police has been extended by two years until Sept 13, 2009.

Internal Security Ministry Secretary-General Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof said in a statement today that the appointment under contract takes effect on Sept 14, a day after Musa compulsorily retires after nearly 38 years of service.

The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin has assented to the appointment based on Prime Minster Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's advice following the Police Commission's recommendation, said Abdul Aziz who is the commission's secretary.

Musa was appointed to the post on Sept 12, 2006 succeeding Tan Sri Mohd Bakri Omar. Musa, a law graduate from United Kingdom, joined the service as an inspector on Nov 11, 1969.

Since then, he has held several important posts in the Royal Malaysia Police including as Melaka Prosecuting Officer in 1973, Bukit Aman Narcotics Division Director in 1981 and Kuala Kubu Baharu Police College Lecturer in 1986. Musa held the post of Bukit Aman Prosecution/Criminal Law Deputy Assistant Director in 1995 and Johor Chief Police Officer in 2003.

In 1999, he headed the team which investigated a sodomy case involving former deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

In 2004, he was appointed as Criminal Investigation Department Director before being made Deputy Inspector-General of Police a year later and then as the Inspector-General of Police the following year. (Bernama)
