Oh Dear, The Loonies Are at It Again; Universiti Utara Malaysia Denies Baju Kurung Ruling

Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) has denied imposing a new ruling forcing all female students, including non-Malays, to wear the baju kurung. UUM deputy vice-chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) Assoc Prof Dr Ahmad Faiz Hamid said that the university allowed them to wear skirts and slacks. “However, they must abide by our dress code which does not allow the wearing of revealing clothes,” he said, adding that male students are required to wear neckties.

He also said that the dress code was applicable to all students including foreigners. Dr Ahmad Faiz was responding to reports in Chinese dailies that female students were required to wear baju kurung based on posters released by the university. He said that the poster would be changed to avoid misunderstanding.

“The university does not make any ruling that discriminates any race. The rulings that we make are in the best interest of students, regardless of race or religion,” he said. (TheStar)

***** I'm surprised that our testicle-challenged daily TheStar actually published this report. Aren't they afraid that the 'Educate-shun' Minister Hishamuddin might come out hollering, "don't test my patience. It's in the kontrak sosial. Don't try to hina the national dress of our wanita." (Ooops sorry, can't use the word 'wanita', it's Sanskrit. Change that to perempuan.)

As long as there are inferiority complex ridden nitwits among the decision makers at our varsities you can expect this kind of senseless irritants sans substance from time to time. It is the work of self-assuming 'patriots' working in 'bangsa, agama dan negara' mode. The best thing to do is to ignore these people and let them wallow like buffaloes in their own tiny space which they have apparently mistaken for the real world. Don't be angry, just feel sorry for them.

It is most sickening, to say the least, that our public money is being used to pay the salaries of those "self-assuming 'patriots' working in 'bangsa, agama dan negara' mode."

When there are so many things to do, like raising the standard of the university, they have to indulge in trivialities such as this. Like they say in Cantonese, "tak hun moh yeh cho" [so free, nothing else to do].

Only good at enforcing form. Unfortunately no substance.
