Local Council Corruption Alive And Well In Selangor.

The four family entertainment outlets in Sekinchan that turned out to be fronts for gambling dens should not have been issued operating licences in the first place.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Khir Toyo said yesterday that this was because such licences could only be issued if the premises were located in malls or shopping complexes.

The guidelines, he said, were introduced to ensure better monitoring of family entertainment outlets.

"Council officials will be asked to explain why the licences were issued. Action will be taken if they are found to have turned a blind eye to the gambling activities at the outlets."

Police raided four illegal gambling dens in Sekinchan, which were located barely 100 metres from their station, on Saturday.

Dr Mohd Khir also announced a review on the granting of licences for entertainment outlets in Selangor.

He said new licences must now be supported in writing by local council heads and councillors who would have to face the music if the premises were later found to operate as gambling dens.

"As the ones who issued the licences, the onus is on them to monitor the activities at the premises." (NST)

****** Almost on a daily basis either massive corruption or extreme high-handedness by local councils especially in Selangor make the headlines. And as usual a totally 'outraged' and 'ignorant' Khir Toyo comes out with more pious statements. But what's the use? Selangor is still being plundered by these political pirates.

This is indeed plain corruption and Khir Toyo with his Barisan Nasional compatriots have long lost their appeal.

The only way to clean the filth of corruption in Selangor is to vote them out in the next elections and also introduce local government elections.

We need and must have residents running their own councils and to ensure that their rights are not trampled by irresponsible administrators or councillors.

This has gone on for far too long and citizens must stand up for their rights and put a stop to the corruption and malfeasance by the government.

Enough said.

I really dont know why you and this mat merah can conclude that this was all corruption. Baes on what evidence?

It could be that what was submitted for approval was not what was finally established.

But to conclude that this was related to corruption without being supported by facts/evidence is too much! and that is normally done by the uninformed!

I agree with Warrior2. There is no evidence of corruption. Lets not forget that our state governments are also incompetent! Other words which one could use to describe them include short-sighted, lazy, undisciplined, unmotivated, stupid etc...
