Preserve Mutual Understanding, Cooperation In BN, Says Pak Lah.
Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi Saturday reminded Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties to preserve the mutual understanding and cooperation, the hallmark of the ruling coalition all these years to realise the national development agenda and Vision 2020.
The Prime Minister and BN Chairman said leaders and members of BN component parties must always strive to strengthen their respective party to ensure people from all walks of life, regardless of race and religion, reaped the full benefits from the programmes implemented by the government.
Abdullah said although BN component parties pursued the interests of a particular race, it was crucial for the parties to unite and move in the same direction when it comes to the country and people's well-being.
It was for this reason the power-sharing concept was instituted in BN where all decisions are made with consensus to ensure the interests of every race was protected in planning the national development agenda, he said.
**** I appreciate the PM's concern in maintaining unity among the component parties of BN. Such unity is essential for the country to move forward without unwanted hitches.
However, only if the cake and the slices that make up that cake are shared more equally or less unfairly among the component parties, will there be genuine commitment to strive for the unity the PM hopes for.
As it stands now, other than Umno, the other race-based parties put their best appearance for the public but crib like hell privately on the greed displayed by Umno in grabbing everything it can get hold of and leaving the crumbs to the others.
No amount of denial on this is going to convince the thinking public. The distribution of cabinet portfolios itself shows Umno's mindset. Therefore rather than pass the initiative to the minor parties to bolster unity, Umno must look within itself honestly, realize the true source of potential disunity is Umno itself, and then proceed to treat the others fairly rather than sermonize them on theoretical unity.
