Engelbert Humperdinck Taken Ill, Show Is Off.

Tonight's concert by Engelbert Humperdinck scheduled at the Shangri-La Hotel here has been postponed to Wednesday as the singer was taken ill, according to the organisers.

" We deeply regret to inform the show has been postponed due to his illness. He has been strongly advised by medical specialists to rest," the Old Putera Association (OPA) of the Royal Military College said in a statement. The organisers said the tickets for tonight's show could be used for the Wednesday concert.

The legendary British crooner is in town for two shows in aid of charity. At his RM5,000 per table dinner show last night, Humperdinck, popular for his evergreen numbers such as Release Me, Quando, Quando, Quando, The Last Waltz and A Man Without Love, suddenly lost his voice less than an hour after taking to the stage. He told the audience that he had just found out his brother had undergone emergency brain surgery. "The shock, I think affected my voice," said Humperdinck, who managed to keep the audience entertained with his jokes.
