"Reject Bad Leaders," Says Najib. Shall We Begin With Him?
The people must reject leaders who fail to perform when given the opportunity, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
He said a true leader was one who excelled when in power, and had the capability and instincts to steer the country well when faced with crises.
“We had this so-called leader who, in 1998, was prepared to capitulate before the International Monetary Fund. If not for the brilliance of our former Prime Minister (Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad), we would have suffered untold misery, as seen by some governments who cowed before the IMF,” he said at a dinner held in conjunction with his two-day official working visit to the state.
Najib said this particular leader was also the reason why many businesses folded as he single-handedly reduced the period for non-performing loans from six to three months and drastically reduced government spending.
“And, today, when he is out of the Government, he is making promises that are not only ridiculous but which also insult the intelligence of Malaysians,” he said.
“He is saying that if the opposition comes into power, they will turn Malaysia into a welfare state and bring down fuel prices the next day. When oil-producing countries are unable to determine fuel prices, how can he do it?” he asked.
Najib said the Government had to pay out RM35bil in oil and gas subsidies although Petronas produced just 750,000 barrels a day.
“On the welfare state, the Barisan Nasional government has already been doing this with billions of ringgit given out for education, hospitalisation, foodstuff and fuel subsidies. I hope Malaysians will not be taken in by such nonsensical claims by these so-called former leaders,” he added. (The Star)
***** Obviously the target of the DPM's ire is Anwar Ibrahim and one may feel that Najib is quite justified in castigating him. To speak of a welfare state at this point in time is merely fishing for votes and not a very practical idea. In essence, the suggestion is nothing but an unwise and prohibitively costly expansion of the subsidy policy already in place here.
Having said that I find Najib's definition of a good leader somewhat insufficient and vague. He has very clearly left out the all-important requirement that a good leader should not only be seen to be fair and speak of being fair but actually treat all citizens equally without pandering to the needs of one group while avidly discriminating others.
On that score Najib gets a big zero and if we have to reject bad leaders, he too has to make way for those who truly believe in and practise justice for all. But that's not going to happen anytime soon. Well, there's always the elections, if you get my drift.

he's more interested in fair women.
but al least he can still read after spending many years in england , unlike many of our favored quasi "graduates" here
hahaha
hmmmm....ok...can we start with you najib
Well said Najib. Why talk only. Its time for action now. Many are waiting for your post of DPM. If you are not careful you will end up the next target of criticism by your successor(if you tak naik pangkat).
Oh you forgot to define "good performance" and missed a few important characteristics of a good leader- integrity, honesty and sense of jusctice. Whether you are a leader of a small organization like kampong or school or a big one like Umno or the government, integrity and honesty are a necessary ingredient.
Please be reminded again that Petronas does not belong to Umno or the BN government. So is Petronas money. Don't spend the government's money as if you own it.Its the people's hard earned money.( Malaysia does not require those who earned through corrupt means pay a single cent in income tax. However Malaysians who work honestly must pay personal income tax)
The people of Malaysia pay many kinds of taxes(some of which are not justifid) for building and maintenance of roads and hospitals and many more. This is not welfare given to the people who had already paid more than what they get in return. The BN government's job is to ensure you use the money wisely and fairly. Enriching a few loyal supporter is surely not fair.Fishing for votes??
On the score of fairness, integrity and spending the tax payers money wisely, we have every reason to reject you and the whole BN government.
