Kampung Baru Calm, No Illegal Assembly
Kampung Baru, the Malay heartland in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, was calm today without any illegal gathering of the Malays as was rumoured through messages sent out via SMS by irresponsible elements.
Checks by Bernama journalists showed the residents went about their usual Sunday chores.
Policemen were stationed at every road leading to Kampung Baru and surrounding areas such as at the Kampung Baru Mosque and Dang Wangi area to ensure peace and order.
Dang Wangi OCPD ACP Zulkarnain Abdul Rahman said there was no gathering whatsoever in Kampung Baru.
"The SMSes sent out are merely rumours. Our 48-hour surveillance in and around Kampung Baru showed no sign of any gathering as was rumoured.
"They are only rumours. There is no response, no gathering of people whatsoever," he told reporters after assessing the situation in Kampung Baru.
Zulkarnain said traders in and around Kampung Baru went about their usual business.
He said police were investigating the masterminds behind the SMS rumours of a gathering of the Malays in Kampung Baru and Indians in Batu Caves.
Appropriate action would be taken against them including detention under the Internal Security Act (ISA), he said.

Anyone who had attended the Bersih rally onthe 10th November would wonder if really the Malays want to cross swords, as AAB would have it, with either Indians or the Chinese. If AAB had never seen National Unity, he missed the opportunity on the 10th november. It was not only that, there was harmony. And more important than that, the PAS's Unit Amal Malaysia boys even protected ALL of us and guided ALL of us, and not just the Malays that day. Now after being there and experiencing that unity and harmony, what nonsense is AAB, the IGP and all the mainstream newspapers are talking about? It would seem to me that only these people and UMNO seem to need a racial riot very badly. Despite all the headlines, I still fail to see the tension that there was even in 1987 when the operation Lalang was implemented.
Was there REALLY any SMS saying there was going to be an illegal assembly in Kampung Baru? Or...
