Pakistan Demands Britain Withdraw Knighthood To Salman Rushdie

In an unusually undiplomatic move, a Pakistani minister not only demanded that the honour be withdrawn but justified increased terrorist attacks by bomb-strapped Islamists nursing hurt feelings.

Religious Affairs Minister Ijaz-ul-Haq, the son of military dictator Zia-ul-Haq who died in a plane crash in 1988, later retracted his statement in parliament and said he meant to say that knighting Rushdie could spark terrorism.

Angry protesters in several cities torched British flags and beat them with their shoes in protest at the accolade for the Indian-born writer of "The Satanic Verses" and chanted "Death to Britain, death to Rushdie."

Rushdie, 59, was forced to go into hiding for a decade after Iran's Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini in 1989 issued a death sentence over his book "The Satanic Verses," claiming it insulted Islam.

Iran has already accused British leaders of "Islamophobia" after Rushdie - now Sir Salman - was awarded the knighthood by Queen Elizabeth II on Saturday to mark her 81st birthday. (Source- Channel Newasia)

***** While the sensitivity or lack of it and timing of the British knighthood leaves much to be desired, the fact remains that it is the sovereign right and prerogative of nations to honour those whom in their opinion are deserving of such awards. By burning flags and effigies, screaming "more terrorist attacks" by ironically, a Religious Affairs Minister, and hardliners chanting "death to Britain, death to Rushdie," these people whose sentiments understandably hurt, are playing into the hands of the western media who will have a field day parodying Islam as a religion of peace.

Here in Malaysia we have seen crooks, conmen and thugs being given high awards. If those hurt by the honours given to these lowlife were to protest every time the honours list is announced, there will be no peace in the country. Unpalatable news confronts us from time to time and the rational person has to learn to take it in his/her stride.

Salman Rushdie has written many books of the highest literary quality. The knighthood for his contributions to English Literature is well deserved.

Unfortunately, many people, 99% of whom never read his books, cannot get past "Satanic Verses".

Poor guy, I don't think he's going to have the chance to die a natural death in his bed...somewhere, sometime, somebody will get to him...and BOOM !

Good one, of course the very peaceful 'Muslims' are justified for destroying the whole world over this. What? The Queen can't knight someone she likes? She can't knight someone that other people don't like?

But I'm sure Sir Rushdie has mixed emotions on this; the Queen has put him in much greater danger. Maybe he'll wish he had turned it down.

At least this incident will lose the terrorists at least a few more of their dhimmidiot appeasers.

Islam in it's extreme is more political ideology than religion. In that way, it is only a 'Religion of Peace' in that when Islam rules the planet, there will be no one to be at war with. Where they are given an inch, they demand a mile. Islamic countries are becoming more extreme, extremists rule, they just keep quoting the Koran to justify their Jihad.

absurd thought -
God of the Universe says
appease religious killers

continue to spoil them
violent tantrums pay off
