Lina Joy's Case: Federal Court Dismisses Appeal

Malaysia's highest court on Wednesday threw out a bid by a woman seeking to have her conversion to Christianity from Islam officially recognised.

A three-judge panel of the Federal Court rejected an appeal by Lina Joy in a case that went to the heart of a debate here on whether civil courts should take precedence over tribunals based on Islamic syariah law.

Joy's appeal centred on whether she should be required to go before a syariah court to have her renunciation – seen as one of the gravest sins in Islam – recognised before authorities delete the word "Islam" from her identity card.

Chief Judge Ahmad Fairuz said the National Registration Department, which is in charge of issuing identity cards, had the right to demand that a syariah court certify Joy's conversion.

"On the question that the National Registration Department has the right to demand a certification from the Islamic court that confirms the appellant's renunciation of Islam, my answer is that NRD has the right," the judge said.

"The appeal has been rejected." (Channel Newsasia)

Expected this from the very beginning.

Now, since this has been transferred to the Syariah Court, I think Lina Joy will consider migration.

Incomprehensible stupidity, to actually think an individual can be COERCED into a belief system! How appallingly benighted can this virulent species of "Islamofascism" get? Will they introduce mandatory clitoral amputation for all Muslim girls at birth as their next act of unmitigated folly? :-)

The judges may deny Lina Joy her identity and dignity, but there is one thing they can't take away from her, her FAITH in her new found religion. I do agree with many bloggers these days - our country is fast becoming a fascist state. In fact I feel so sad for our Muslim brethren that they have to be strapped up in such a straight jacket created by men instead of God. In the end, we have one section of society moving forward while the other moving backwards. By the time they reach critical mass, they will start the blame game by pointing fingers at the others for their own predicament. *sigh*

The verdict against Lina Joy appeal shows how short sighted these people are.Their intention is to prevent more muslim from denouncing their "born with" faith. However they fail to see a bigger picture from these events. It gives me an impression that

1. Islam is so desperate that it has to force someone to continue being faithful.

2. There are no freedom in Islam.Either my way or no way.

3. Its hard to justify that Islam is a fair and beautiful religion.

Don't get me wrong! I'm not against Islam but its the people incharge of Islamic welfare in Malaysia that I'm questioning.

1. Can a person embrace a religion wholeheartedly when its against their will?

2. Is stamping someone an Islam, the will of GOD?

3. By winning over their body and not their soul, what will happen to them after death?

4. These action really discourage people from embracing Islam. It instil fear to those that are beginning to learn about Islam.

By the judgement , Islam has been degraded to a cult rather than a religion.

This may be a decision that is inconvenient to Lina Joy.

But it is actually a boost to those all over the world who are taking the battle to Islamofascism. There are now many more whose eyes are open to the evil of this cult, even among their own cult members.

My best wishes go out to Lina Joy, because she has brought the system down with her. She should now seek refuge in another country that respects human rights and whose government does not bow to Arab cults.

Please donot whack Islam or any other religions for similar reasons. Islam is not a cult.

Remember, in the Middle Age, scientists were persecuted by the "church". It is those humans (or I would said idiots) that tried to play God that we have all these kind of problems. By all means, please whack those learned-idiots who made their biased Court decision & judgement.

If our country were to stay secular like Turkey or even Indonesia, we shouldn't have these problems.

We are currently on vacation in Europe, and will also travel to two African countries soon.
Is there any financial funds people can contribute small sums to to help Miss Lina Joy, since we read that she had to give up her job because of her conversion in 1990 to Christianity from Islam?

And they complain that non-Christians (read: MUSLIMS) are repressed in 'Christian' Europe. I think non-Muslims (mostly Christians) have a harder time in Muslim countries. BAH!! When is this hypocrisy going to end??
