PM Says He Will Continue To Run The Country.

Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi says, he will continue to run the country as the Prime Minister as there is still a lot of work to be done.

"Well I think so (laughing), I think so. There is a lot of work to be done," said the prime minister during an interview on BBC's Special Edition of Asia Today aired live from London today. Abdullah who was the special guest of the programme, was interviewed at his Dorchester Hotel suite by Zeinab Badawi.

Abdullah who took over the helm from Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in 2004, was asked whether he still got the appetite for the job and would like to run again in the next election. The Prime Minister stopped in London on his way to attend the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

On his ties with Dr Mahathir, who had been criticising the government's policy under his leadership, Abdullah said the former leader had the right to say whatever he wanted. "It is his right to say what he wants. I have a government to run. I have to do what I think is possible to do. The economy is better now and the Ninth Malaysia Plan has been launched in March and today it is gathering momentum. "Maybe because we are a bit slow, that's why he (Dr Mahathir) was getting impatient," Abdullah said.

The prime minister said Malaysia had been practising a very moderate Islam by not marginalising the non-Muslims, bringing them into the power sharing government and permitting the freedom of worship.

On Muslim extremists who had hijacked the global agenda, Abdullah said Islam must be made to be understood by the people. "We certainly have to provide them with an alternative in the sense that the ability to talk what Islam is, what Islam really is and what Islam wants us to do and to prove that Islam is not against modernity, to prove that Islam is still relevant today," he said.

Abdullah said Islam does not tolerate and compromise terrorism. He said he had been promoting Islam Hadhari, a civilisational Islam approach initiated by him, which had been receiving good response from both the Muslim and Western world. (Bernama)

****** Pak Lah seems to be very confident of the economy, the state of the nation in general as well as his continued leadership of the country. However does the average Malaysian share his optimism?

You're kidding me: "continue" to lead? Since when has he been a leader? Rafidah, Samy and various "little Napoleons" are running the country.

"not marginalising the non-Muslims, bringing them into the power sharing government and permitting the freedom of worship"

1) non-Muslims are marginalized through discriminative policies in university quotas, 5-15% housing discounts, Bumi-only housing, discrimination in banking (financial assistance, special loans, Bumi-only bonds and funds), Bumi-only scholarships and ALL government contracts are Bumi-only . There is also zero government support for vernacular schools.

2) Power sharing? UMNO has steadily taken over more and more Minister posts.

3) Freedom of worship? Only insensitivity in tearing down numerous decades-old temples. There is ZERO support for building or relocating temples, while MILLIONS are spent on suraus and grand mosques.

I call B.S.

It's an interview, what else can one expect Pak Lah to say -that our economy isn't as good as it used to be? that Malaysians are not as racially tolerant as we used to be? that Malaysians are now divided into Muslims and non-Muslims and UMNO is encouraging this trend of thought with their racially and religiously charged speeches, kris-waving and all? that corruption is evident and the authorities are not as transparent as they claim to be?....the list goes on. We know it, our politicians know it, our leaders know it but obviously we cannot and should not let others know that we know, especially foreigners. Afterall, it's Visit Malaysia Year-mah, and we're in Boleh Land!

"......There is a lot of work to be done," said the prime minister.

Mr. PM, you are incompetent. Please retire, the sooner the better, & let others to complete the works, "the lots of works" that you cann't cope with.

Then, you will have more time to go yatching (in Cobra Sultan ), open more Nasi Kandar restaurants in Australia (too busy to attend to flood crisis), handingover Award to bollywood star in GIFA (like the glamour you did 2 months ago in Bukit Jalil stadium) & many many other trivial matters that are not of national interest or top national priority.
Moreover, you don't have to struggle to improve your national/international image locally or abroad. You can sleep soundly at night for nobody will disturb you again, including our beloved "oldman" Tun M.

OF COURSE! Just look at the economic figures: The GDP growth, FDI, trade figures etcetc. If I recall correctly, for 2006, all indicators are UP.

The nation is peaceful, there is no wars, civil uprising or racial unrest and nothing to worry about.

We dont have the habit of toppling out nO 1 and powers have always being passed down . and our armed forces have never took over as far as i am aware. so he will still be no 1 for some time
