Blacklist Of ‘Bad Hats’ To Be Posted Online. Great! No More Criminals Awarded Datuk Title Perhaps?
The Registrar of Societies (ROS) is unveiling an online screening system next year that will make it possible to detect those not eligible to hold posts in associations, societies and clubs. Those disqualified as office bearers under the criteria set by the ROS include bankrupts, fraudsters and people facing court action.
Deputy Registrar Marzuki Zainudin said the new system would prevent “bad hats” from holding office and help make the bodies better managed. “After those not qualified have been identified, the ROS will blacklist and bar them from holding any post,” he said yesterday.
Up to this year, the ROS has 106,000 associations, societies and clubs registered nationwide, of which 7,000 are in Kelantan and 6,000 in Terengganu. Marzuki said those wishing to check the background of nominated office bearers would be able to access the system.
The ROS, he added, wanted to reduce the number of organisations unable to renew their registration because of poor administration and selection of office bearers. “All organisations should have an internal system to check the profiles of their members, nominees and ex-officio officers,” he said. “They should not be dependent on just the ROS.”
Marzuki also called on members of organisations to select experienced office bearers and to avoid internal politicking, noting that they would be ones to suffer should their groups be deregistered.
Those in doubt about regulations, he added, should refer to the ROS guidelines and code of ethics. “Well-managed bodies can help the country address social issues such as juvenile delinquency and also raise sporting standards and socio-economic levels,” he said.(TheStar)
***** Isn't that just wonderful news? Now we can send out that hit list to all the state governments, especially Malacca and Pahang to ensure that their 'awards committee' can keep the cheats and criminals away from the Datuk title, in future years at least. If we extend the distribution of the list to political parties, even if half of their Supreme Council members are found to be ineligible, it doesn't matter. In the long run the party will benefit and so will the nation. A strict and just compilation as well as fair enforcement of the blacklist will, for all you know, lead to a trim Cabinet and 'healthy' State Excos. Why, there could even be a few MB and CM posts that may go vacant! Great idea, but it is hoped that this online attempt doesn't go the way that most .gov.my websites have gone in the past - dead as a dodo.
